AC Grayling: Why trainee doctors don’t need to learn about ancient demon possession

Here’s a nice video from the Richard Dawkins Foundation featuring the philosopher AC Grayling. He’s explaining why the policy of ‘teaching the controversy’ in those areas of education that some would like to make controversial, even though they are really not at all controversial, does nothing but devalue education.

He says: “The minute that you broaden the conversation in that way you begin to see that, in fact, trying to be inclusive and fair and to have all sides of the argument… is going to interrupt and deeply pollute the educational process.”

He continues: “If it is done well…. they will understand why it is going to be a waste of time and a distraction, if they are studying medicine, for example, to learn about ancient demon possession.”
