Memory (n): The process of retaining and recalling one's accumulated knowledge and experiences.
This is part of a garden-cum-art installation in the centre of Letchworth Garden City that reads, in its entirety: “Paradise is a promise as well as a memory” across four street-style signs. It was commissioned to celebrate the town’s centenary in 2003. More here. The quote comes from the writings of Joseph Rykwert.
