Mishima is an interesting character – biographical details include a deeply peculiar childhood, a prolific output, a description as “one of the most important post-war stylists of the Japanese language” and a striking death – he committed ritual suicide at the age of 45 as part of a coup attempt involving re-establishing the rule of the Emperor.
